How to make a barcode
- Choose the barcode type — the hint underneath tells you what it accepts.
- Type your value. For EAN, UPC and ITF-14, leave off the last digit: the check digit is calculated for you.
- Adjust bar height and width, and whether the value prints underneath.
- Download SVG for print (scales perfectly) or PNG (rendered at 4x for sharp printing).
Which barcode type do I need?

Important: retail barcodes (EAN/UPC) only work in stores if the number is registered to your company through GS1. A generated EAN with a made-up number will scan, but it isn't yours. For internal use, use Code 128.
Printing tips
- Print black bars on white — coloured or low-contrast barcodes often fail to scan.
- Keep the quiet zone (the blank margin either side). Don't crop it.
- Test-scan with a phone before printing a large batch.
- Thermal and laser printers give crisper bars than inkjet.
