Which format when

PNG → WebP is the conversion with the biggest payoff: typically a 25–50% size reduction with transparency preserved.

Anything → JPEG discards transparency. This tool fills transparent areas with white rather than letting them turn black, which is what happens if you convert carelessly.

Tips

• Convert from the highest-quality original you have. Converting an already-compressed JPEG to WebP inherits the JPEG's artefacts.
• Quality has no effect when the target is PNG — it is lossless by definition, so the slider is disabled.
• If a converted file comes out bigger, the source was already efficiently compressed. That is common when converting a small optimised JPEG to PNG.

FAQ

Are my files uploaded?

No. Each image is decoded and re-encoded in your browser. Nothing is transmitted.

Can I convert HEIC photos from my iPhone?

Only if your browser can decode HEIC, which Safari can and most others cannot. Export as JPEG on the phone first if the conversion fails.

Does converting lose quality?

Converting to a lossy format (JPEG, lossy WebP) always discards some data. Converting to PNG is lossless, but it cannot recover detail already lost by an earlier lossy step.

Why did my transparent PNG get a white background?

Because you converted it to JPEG, which has no alpha channel. Convert to WebP or PNG to keep transparency.

How many files can I convert at once?

As many as your browser's memory allows. Images are processed one after another; very large batches of high-resolution files may be slow on a phone.
